If you’ve been reading my blog in the past, you may remember that I have a pet peeve for overt LinkedIn promotional messages from people I don’t know. Well, I finally figured out how to deal with the ones I receive on a daily basis.
A while back, I wrote this post: Shame on You if You Send Overt Promotions on LinkedIn. It lays out exactly how I feel about pitching people through LinkedIn without building relationships first.
So, here’s what I do to save time and get my point across:
I created a message that I copy and paste into my LinkedIn replies. Using bit.ly, I shortened my blog post and send this reply:
Here are my thoughts on overt LinkedIn promotions: http://bit.ly/11vLh5g
Although I realize that I won’t win many friends this way, my guess is it doesn’t matter anyway. These are the people who desperately want to gain leads and new business without putting in the time and effort required to build relationships.
Many will likely delete my message without even reading the post. Hopefully, they will cross my name off their lists.
And, if they happen to take a few moments to read the post, maybe, just maybe, they’ll get the message:
Shame on you if you’re sending overt promotions on LinkedIn without building some foundation first. Do your homework first!
